The Gift of a Dozen More

I walked outside and saw the sun

shining once again.

It reminded me of all the joy

you gave to me back then.

.

I saw two blue jays fly above me,

and then I thought of you.

Because the birds flew just like angels,

and your eyes were the color blue.

.

The tree branches began to move around,

and I felt a breeze upon my skin.

I felt the wind yet could not see it,

so I thought of you again.

.

A butterfly came to visit,

and it reminded me of you.

Because the butterfly was once a caterpillar

that transformed into something new.

.

I came across a beaten path

with rocks as far as I could see.

They reminded me of the countless memories

you made with me.

.

I saw a field of light pink roses,

so delicate and free.

It reminded me to embrace the little girl

that lives inside of me.

.

I looked above and saw some rain

falling from the sky.

It reminded me to tell that little girl

that it’s ok to cry.

.

After the rain, I spotted a rainbow

and remembered what you’d say.

It was the promise you made before you left

that we’d meet again one day.

.

I saw the sun set over a hill,

and I wished that it would stay.

But it passed away into the distance

the way you did that day.

.

I couldn’t see the sun anymore,

but it was surely there.

It would be there shining again tomorrow

just like an answered prayer.

.

I looked above at all the stars

that filled the velvet sky.

They reminded me of all you gave me

that money couldn’t buy.

.

You gave me my life, your love,

even your perfect smile.

You gave to me your sense of humor

and also your unique style.

.

The darkness of night reminds us to pause

before beginning a brand new day.

I want to be rested when I see you again,

so much I want to say.

.

I miss you greatly, but I’ll be ok

because the Lord is here, you see.

Being with Him reminds me of those times

when you took care of me.

.

I have countless reasons to thank the Lord,

but today I thank Him for you.

I thank Him for choosing you to be my daddy

and my hero too.

.

I’ll always cherish the dozen reasons

which I wrote about before,

and today I want to thank the Lord

for giving me a dozen more.
