The Gift of Peace: Realizing God’s Timing is Perfect

It was around one o’clock am when Sassy and I were abruptly awoken by a crash coming from my kitchen. A leak from upstairs had led to a progressive weakening in the integrity of my ceiling. By that time, the leak had been fixed, but the damage had already been done. Earlier that day, just a few hours to be exact, I had begun clearing out my kitchen and covering my curtains with plastic. The maintenance crew would be at my place the next morning to fix any damage that had occurred due to the leak. Little did I know, they would be attending to a whole lot more damage than we all previously expected.

After surveying the damage in my kitchen, I made my way back to bed. As I laid there, I began to think about God’s timing. Despite the fact that my ceiling now covered the ground of my kitchen, and the rest of it filled my sink, I had so much to be thankful for. That ceiling had days to fall, but by the grace of God, it fell after I had moved everything out. By the grace of God, it didn’t fall while I was moving everything out, on me, or on Sassy. Life has been difficult this year to say the least, particularly these last couple of weeks, and to top it off, I had come down with a cold and needed to rest from work. Truthfully, I would’ve otherwise put on a mask and kept it moving, but sometimes things happen because we need them to. God knew I needed rest physically, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally, and that’s exactly when the bottom fell out—literally. God knows what we need and when we need it. So I had no choice but to rest while God took care of me and the crew took care of my kitchen.

How many times in our lives do we question why we are going through things only to realize later, it had to happen that way for a reason? How many times do we become so distracted by what’s going wrong, we can’t see all the things that have gone right?

It can be hard to look at the mess around you and still hold on to faith that there’s a purpose for it all. I’ve come to realize though this thing we call peace isn’t found in our circumstances; peace is found in realizing God’s timing is perfect.
