If pink were a person, I imagine she would be full of love, full of peace, and of course, she’d be very, very beautiful. What is it that makes someone beautiful? It’s more than just well formed molecules; true beauty is about surrender. It’s about letting go of others’ expectations or even your own and surrendering to God’s. Have you ever appreciated the beauty of autumn’s fallen leaves, the same leaves that had no problem letting go of the branches they came from? Or what about the beautiful sun surrendering to the night as it set? Surrender is present everywhere in nature; perhaps that’s what makes it all so beautiful.

“Letting Go” is inspired by a poem I wrote last year, and this pastel painting is available for purchase in my Etsy Shoppe and EBay Store.

.
Taking in this moment,
not a soul, not a sound,
just these pretty pink flowers
lying on the ground.
.
If pink were a person,
she’d be careless and free.
She’d rejoice in her trials
because they shape you and me.
.
She’d wear joy and gratitude
like jewels around her neck.
She’d keep praising God
when her life is a wreck.
.
If pink were a person,
she would want you to know
if you want to be free,
you have to let go.
.
It’s ok to give up
and fall to the ground.
The Lord will catch her
if there’s no one around.
.
If pink were a person,
she’d give all she’s got.
She’d give to those who despise her
whether deserving or not.
.
She’d give her time, her prayers,
her love for many years.
She’d even give you her smile
when she’s holding back tears.
.
If pink were a person,
in forgiveness, she’d find rest.
She wouldn’t seek to win;
she wouldn’t strive to be best.
.
The best version of her
is all she would seek.
She wouldn’t be proud
but humble and meek.
.
If pink were a person,
she wouldn’t compete.
With the Lord’s approval,
her heart would be complete.
.
If pink were a person,
she would want you to know
the gift of giving up,
the gift of letting go.
