The Gift of the Whisper

Have you ever had an experience where God spoke to you so clearly, it was absolutely undeniable it was Him? I’ve had a few of those moments, and those moments have come to shape my faith. The truth is though, more often than not, God speaks to us in a whisper. The thing about a whisper is it’s undeniable, but it’s also very easy to miss. If we are too distracted or if other louder sounds are around us, we may never hear it.

Lately at my bird feeder, I’ve been noticing little gifts. I’ve collected a marble, a tiny lock, and most recently a piece of glass after I read that certain birds are known to give gifts in return for providing food. The other morning during my quiet time, I prayed with my whole heart for God to speak, not on anything in particular but just something to let me know He was there. It was silent; no music was playing; no sermon was being preached, and my phone was face down on the other side of the room. I heard in my spirit the quiet whisper of God telling me to walk over to my window. As I looked out the window, I felt kind of silly when I didn’t see any fire falling down from the sky or a blimp with some spiritual message on it. That’s when I looked down at the ground and saw a small piece of glass, a piece of glass I had noticed the last few times I walked out to my bird feeder but hadn’t bothered to ask myself why it was there. After doing a little research, I found that these gift-giving birds are not only known to give marbles and other shiny trinkets but also, you guessed it, small pieces of glass.

God’s whisper can take on many forms—the still small voice inside, the Bible verse that seems to be speaking right to you, the friend that texts you at the exact moment you needed it, even a tiny piece of glass on the ground left by a grateful bird that just knew you’d love it. Everyone who desires a relationship with God wants the same thing, to hear Him. I want you to ask yourself a very simple question. What is it you love? If you’re longing to hear from God, just look inside your heart, and there He’ll be.

“The Gift of the Whisper”

“The Gift of the Whisper” is inspired by the simple yet wonderful relationship God longs to have with each and every one of us. It’s inspired not by the fireworks but the stable and consistent, gentle glow of the candlelight that guides us along our journey, lighting just enough of the path to see what’s right in front of us. It’s inspired by the faith we must cling to each and every day to keep the candle lit. The tiny bird represents the ever present voice of our Creator who speaks to us through even the smallest parts of His creation. The bow represents the gift that is this relationship we all have access to. When I imagine this relationship, it exhibits childlike features and mimics the way a mother and father relate to their small child. This pastel painting would look adorable in your little girl’s bedroom serving as a reminder to never lose that childlike wonder, to never stop listening for “the whisper”. This piece comes in a rose gold 12” x 12” frame matted to 8” x 8” and is available for purchase in my Etsy Shoppe and EBay Store.

.

Did you know our Father speaks to us

each and every day?

Sometimes we have to listen closely

to hear what He wants to say.

.

He doesn’t always speak

through fireworks or thunder.

Maybe He hopes you’ll hold onto

that childlike sense of wonder.

.

See the more quiet God’s voice,

the more we have to seek.

The more we must lean into God

in order to hear Him speak.

.

Sometimes God speaks through an inner voice;

sometimes through His Word.

God can speak to us through a friend

or even a tiny bird.

.

God’s voice is always with us

everywhere we go.

It’s the gift of His whisper,

love wrapped in a bow.
