The Gift of the Hummingbird: Nature’s Tiny Wonder

The hummingbird never ceases to teach me things. God has used nature’s tiny wonder to teach me about love, patience, kindness, hope, and faith. Recently I learned that despite the tiny package it inhabits, the hummingbird actually travels the furthest of any bird relative to its size.

Sometimes I wonder if I have the ability to truly make a difference in this world. I don’t travel much or know a lot of people nor do I have children, but I do have a voice that I’m not afraid to use. If we use what we’ve been given, then God can use us.

The hummingbird travels thousands of miles when it migrates, but this isn’t even what makes it so impressive. It’s not the distance; it’s the distance relative to its size. In other words, it’s not the number of miles the hummingbird flies but rather what it’s chosen to do with the vehicle it has been given.

What if we all chose to use to the fullest capacity what we’ve been given, no matter how big or small it may seem? What if when all is said and done we only were able to make an impact on one person, but the impact left a permanent and lasting imprint on that person’s heart?

Today I want to encourage you to fly, not necessarily to reach the other side of the world, but simply because you never know who you’re inspiring. The truth is, we may never see the impact we make on a person, and you know what? That’s ok. The hummingbird will probably never know the way it has changed me, but that doesn’t make it any less wonderful.

“Nature’s Tiny Wonder”

The hummingbird is beautiful;

yes, this is true.

From soft grayish green

to bold green and blue.

.

But the hummingbird is more

than what meets the eye.

It’s taught me about love;

it’s inspired me to fly.

.

Something I’ve wondered—

if God sees me and you

just like the hummingbird,

a tiny wonder too.

  1. I love those little feisty amazing creations of God called hummingbirds. Very nice post. By the way, if you use the “verse” format, for your poetry, it will give you the single spacing natural to a poem. Have a blessed day.
