God, Your thoughts about me are precious. They cannot be numbered! If I could count them, they would be more than all the grains of sand. (Psalm 139:17-18)
This photo is from one of my favorite little hiding places. Every time I would visit, no matter how hard I’d try, I’d always end up bringing some of the sand back with me. The grains are so many, they’d get stuck in places, and it used to really frustrate me.
Think for a moment about how many grains of sand are in an entire beach, all the beaches combined, on the ocean floor, and all the deserts. Psalm 139 tells us that the thoughts God has about each of us individually are more than all the grains of sand on Earth. This is how valuable we are to Him.
In a world so big, with so many people in it, it’s easy to lose sight of how loved we are by God. This is why it’s so important to study the Bible because it reminds us of just how valuable we are to Him individually. The God of the universe thinks about you and I. Not only does He think about us, but the thoughts are so many, they cannot even be numbered. How amazing is that?
When I was cleaning out my backpack, I felt a few grains of sand at the bottom of the bag and was instantly reminded of the last time I visited that beach. I picked up one of the grains and held it in the palm of my hand. That time, instead of frustration, I was filled with love as I remembered Psalm 139.
